Words Of Advice from John Rocker

One of the sacred rules in journalism, we learned in college, is not to open a piece of writing with a quote. But fuck it, here's what John Rocker, he the definition of politically correct, has to say about the sensitivity training baseball has told Ozzie Guillen to attend:

The guy told me when I got there I had to show up to make it look good for people, so after about 15 minutes I left and walked right out of the room and it satisfied the powers that be," Rocker told the newspaper.

"This is a free country. If he wants to use a lewd term, he should be able to use a lewd term," Rocker told the newspaper. "Can't you use a lewd term in America if you want?

Show up, sign your name, and leave? Sounds a lot like our college experience. Guillen's already made it clear he wasn't planning on attending the training but has since back-tracked, probably after hearing from Rocker (a former teammate) that he doesn't have to actually stay. Guillen's reasoning for refusing to go to the training at first was that he misinterpreted what "sensitivity" was supposed to mean, you know, due to cultural differences. Apparantly Guillen's got no concern for how many times he uses that "language barrier" excuse, and we love him for it. It's such a poorly conceived and half-assed excuse to make, but Oz just doesn't care. He's gonna keep doing his thing, silly goatee and all.
