Huard's the Way to Go ... I Cannot Believe I Just Said That

Herm Edwards' original plan was to bring back Trent Green this week. But with the way Damon Huard's been playing, he has to reconsider.

It would be a good idea to keep Huard in as long as he stays effective. Herm Edwards doesn't owe anything to Trent Green. So far, Huard has had 11 touchdowns and 1 interception and boasted the third-best passer rating going into last Sunday -- Peyton Manning and Marc Bulger are #s 1 and 2. You don't bench numbers like that, especially for a guy who's getting up in the years.

The last time Trent Green was benched because of a significant injury, it was for Kurt Warner in St. Louis. Remember him? Two-time MVP and Super Bowl MVP? I'm not saying that Huard is going to play like Kurt Warner for the rest of the season, but he's done really well so far. And no one thought Kurt Warner was going to play like Kurt Warner either.

There are only few reasons that a team should go against the hot hand and Trent Green is not a reason you do. It's Damon Huard's time. Hell, the guy's been mentioned in MVP races and that's a legit argument. Herm Edwards hasn't been afraid of going to the bench instead of an aging quarterback; he kept playing Chad Pennington after Vinny Testaverde went down. If the Chiefs want to win, he better realize it again.
